WHY JENO’S DOESN’T WORK ON ALL TYPES OF VEHICLES

Although we work on many models of vehicles, Jeno’s does not work on all types of vehicles, including vehicles built before 2000.

There are numerous reasons for this including:

  • Lack of familiarity with some types of vehicles and the potential for damaging other components during repairs
  • Parts availability
  • Lack of information
  • The lack of having the exact tool needed
  • The costly labor expenses

All of these reasons make it impractical for us to work on some types of vehicles.

FAMILIARITY

Expertise and know-how are how we have our built our business. There is an advantage to working on vehicles you know.  It saves our customers money by having a mechanic who is familiar with and knows a brand of car.

When it comes to older cars, our technicians are not familiar with outdated vehicles built before 2000.  In truth, many of the technicians that were familiar with those cars, have since retired.  When working on vehicles that the technician is not familiar with there is a higher potential for damaging other components during repairs.

We work on numerous types of vehicles, many of which we are very familiar with and have the resources to properly diagnosis and fix the toughest of issues.  Our technicians know intricate systems and advanced computer systems within today’s complicated engines. They know how a system is supposed to perform, and how to diagnose the likely cause of a problem.

Through familiarity of working on specific brands of cars and trucks, we can keep our prices lower with many streamlined services.

GETTING PARTS FOR CERTAIN VEHICLES

Parts availability on older cars can be a huge obstacle. In many cases, parts are no longer manufactured as companies move on to new designs and technology. Manufacturers are required to make replacement parts for ten years.  After that there is no guarantee we can purchase a specific part from NAPA auto parts.

If the part is no longer produced, the next step is finding that part from an aftermarket and potentially low-end company.  The most unacceptable thing for us to do is install a poor-quality part.  That can be the beginning of a disaster for the customer and the shop.

LACK OF INFORMATION

There is a lack of information on many older systems and engines.  Thinking of all the changes in vehicle technology can make your head spin.   The scope of knowledge needed and the unavailability of information for the technician working on a certain vehicle is a huge obstacle.

At Jeno’s, continued education classes are required for all our technicians.  Sophisticated computer systems keep getting more sophisticated and the entire team of technicians at our shop regularly take classes. The time and research needed to look up and work on old cars is just not practical.

WE DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT TOOL

There is a plethora of different tools needed to run an auto shop. There are times on certain brands of vehicles when specialized tools for a specific purpose are needed.   Chances are the technician may not have that particular tool available.

Factory scan tools are mandatory in our business.  We own different scanners for every brand of vehicle we work on.  These scanners require continual and fairly expensive subscription fees.   A good shop must have updated scanners to have the ability to do many of the services and repairs that need to be done and done right.

We do a majority of our work on most vehicles with the tools in our shop but may choose to not work on some brands of cars based on special and costly tools.

THE COSTLY LABOR EXPENSES

A shop and technician not familiar with a specific brand of car, will require more diagnostic time.

We pay our technicians by the hour and diagnosis and repair can take longer on a vehicle they are not familiar with, resulting in higher priced labor and repairs. This applies to older cars as well.

Through familiarity of working on different brands of cars and trucks, we can keep our prices lower with many streamlined services.

For all of the above reasons, Jeno’s may not decide to work on your vehicle.  If this is the case, we will recommend other local shops that we trust.
